Mold Inspections

Molds are part of the natural environment. Outdoors, mold plays a part in nature's cycle by breaking down dead organic matter, such as fallen leaves and dead trees, but indoors mold should be avoided. Molds reproduce by means of tiny spores; the spores are invisible to the naked eye, and travel through indoor and outdoor air. Mold may begin growing indoors when spores land on wet surfaces. There are many types of mold, and none of them will grow without water or moisture.

Mold spores are usually not a problem indoors unless mold spores land on a wet or damp object and begin growing.  Molds have the potential to create health problems. Molds produce allergens, irritants, and in some cases toxic substances, (mycotoxins). Inhaling or touching mold may produce allegoric reactions. Allergic responses may produce hay fever type symptoms, such as runny, nose sneezing, red, watery, swollen eyes, even skin rash.

Allergic reactions to mold are common. They may be immediate or delayed. Mold may also produce asthma attacks in people with asthma, who are sensitive to mold. In addition, mold can irritate the eye, nose, throat and lungs in people who are both allergic and not allergic to mold.
